Case Study #2

Challenge
Customer needed a rigid coupling, to couple two very small metric shafts together, with metric set screws, for a food-processing application.

Materials had to be autoclaveable, so capable of withstanding high temperature steam; and had to be FDA approved for repeated food contact.

Solution
We recommended a particular grade of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) to our customer, which was rated for 430 deg F continuous use, was FDA approved for repeated food contact, was fully RoHS compliant, was compatible with hot water and steam, had good machinability, and had reasonable cost and availability.

After researching this material, the customer determined that it was appropriate for their application.
